The often over-used, but very true saying: “We’re our own worst critics” really stands out to me presently.
I’ve noticed that I’m definitely MY own worst critic (and at times, enemy). No matter what I seem to be doing in life, there’s a very annoying voice that likes to tell me “it’s not enough”, or even “YOU’RE not enough”. For years I listened to this voice like it was the Sabbath, and let it rule over my thoughts. Thank goodness for raw, heart-opening books like “The Untethered Soul” by Michael Singer, that helped me to ground down and realize that that voice is simply just that: a voice. If you haven’t read this life-changing account of one man’s exploration into his deepest depths, I highly recommend you pick up a copy and get exploring!
As we embark upon our exciting new (albeit terrifying) adventure of moving our gallery to a brand new home on Pandosy Street in the heart of downtown Kelowna, I’ve become hyper-aware of that little voice. With a To-Do list that is longer than all of my limbs combined, the voice is still whispering it’s discontent with my current level of productiveness; I’m proud to say that I’ve been able to take some deep breaths, reconnect with my heart, and remind myself that holy shit I am doing SO much right now and it’s amazing! Why let that voice have any precedent over my excitement at this new chapter of my entrepreneurial journey?!
I invite you to bring awareness to the idea of your own inner voices, but not to them directly. What do your voices like to tell you, and how can you ground down and surpass them?
