Why Buying Local Matters
"But I can get that from <INSERT BIG BOX STORE NAME HERE> for way cheaper!"
This phrase really, really irks me!
While it's probably true that you could head down to the nearest big box store and pick up a cheaper version of the item in question, I would suggest that we put a little more thought into our purchases.
Although our world revolves around money (sadly), it doesn't always have to be the main focus. You DO have a choice as to where you spend your hard-earned cash.
Local is One-of-a-Kind
When you shop local, you’re not only helping to support somebody's dream, and allowing them to continue creating, you're investing in a beautiful, often handmade product. Local shops strive to provide treasures that aren't made in factories in China; instead, items made perhaps by your best friend, neighbor, or that friendly face you see smiling at you from down the street.

Local is Friendly
By investing in anonymous big box stores where you might be lucky to get a half-hearted hello as you walk in the door, we're losing that personalized touch that I think deep down our society is craving. There's something that feels so rewarding about getting to know your local shop owners, building a relationship with them, and helping to support them.
Local is Loved
Also, it's important to keep in mind that while some of the items you see in local shops may cost a few dollars more, there's a reason. The ingredients are probably locally sourced, the entire item could be hand-made instead of with a machine, the shop itself is needing to pay their lease without having big investment backing...and the list goes on.
If you like browsing around in local shops, I encourage you to consider also spending your money there when you have the choice. I'm not saying go broke during a shopping therapy binge, but if you're in the market for a new...necklace for instance, try your local boutiques first!
When you support a local business or artist, you're essentially "voting" for their success. Ever heard the saying pictured below?

Well, it’s 100% true! Whether you're coming into my shop, Karmyc Bazaar, and buying a $2.50 art pin, or splurging on a $1000 painting, I'm doing a happy dance in my head each time! Your votes count, a LOT. It really does mean everything to us little guys.
Personally, I'd rather spend a few dollars more voting for the local bakery around the corner from my house and seeing it thrive. What about you?
Support local ~ We love you for it!
With love,
Jennelle xo
